Since having everything recorded onto one project on Logic Pro, I divided each song and put them into subgroups, where I could have more control when mixing each of these instrument in accordance with the songs
I’m glad that the band performed a cover as a practise, since I could use this to actively check the microphone levels
From the performance, I had completely lost the DPA 4099 tracks that were recording the top snare, so I had to make do with what I had from the recording day
Since live music differs to studio recorded music, I listened to other published live music performances on YouTube and albums such as NIKI’s album “Live at The Wiltern” to help me figure out how to mix these songs
I didn’t want to do heavy mixing or use any auto tune, to emphasise the authenticity of live music
From listening to these live mixed performances, I found that there is some reverb put onto the vocals, so I decided to add some reverb onto the mix and add Bus this also for the other instruments as much as needed – this is since there isn’t much reverb within the room M108 itself, with it being soundproof, similar to a recording studio, so I added reverb to create space
Since some of the songs have guitar solos, or sax solos, I decided to cut certain parts of these and put up the gain in these instruments by the slightest so that they gain the centre stage of the audio
I couldn’t find any books or articles specifying the differences in how to mix and master for live music in comparison to studio music, but I tried to keep as much as I could in the mix
I did get rid of some of the bleed that was taken in from other instruments
I also added a compressor for each of the instruments as well as EQ to drown out and emphasise certain frequencies for each instrument
Since the bass that was recorded through DI wasn’t as prominent in the recordings as I would have liked, I decided to add the plug-in Bass Amp for some of the songs
Unlike for mixing, since I am not too confident in mastering, I used the mastering plug-in on Logic Pro to help me with this
When mastering, I bounced each of the songs as a wav. file, putting them onto a completely new Logic Pro project and mastered them on there
