REH 17TH
- I was able to book the music studios at uni, so I booked Studio 2 in advance
- I specifically chose this studio because it seemed to have the space suited better for a band practice in the live room – I didn’t use the control room, since no microphones were set up apart from the SM58 for the vocals
- This was the first of two rehearsals where everyone was present in the band
- The two electric guitars and bass guitars were both plugged into the guitar amps, the Nord keyboard plugged into the Roland amp
- I wanted to be able to monitor the vocals as well, so I had requested for another amp to be brought from one of the other studios for the vocal mic to be plugged into and used as a monitor speaker.
- Since plugging the SM58 into the Vox amp, I had to use the DACCAPO re-amping box to plug the XLR cable from the mic to be able to be plugged into the amplifier with an instrument jack cable
- Justin tried different pedals – big muff + ts9 overdrive
- Was able to go through the cover, meet you now and token
- Since everyone including myself were in the same room, there wasn’t much space for everyone to go around as much, so once everyone was set up, they stayed in their own places
- Rex, the sax player also went into the control room when he wasn’t needed in practice, so that he could practise playing his own bits in his own time
- Since not everyone in the band were confident enough for performance day, they asked if our last rehearsal on the 23rd of April could be extended, so I extended my booking for the studio for that last rehearsal
- During these rehearsals, I didn’t really do much, but I think looking back, I should have pushed to plan what songs to specifically practice in each rehearsal so that the band are prepared for the day of the recording
- In addition, I should have also been the one leading and in control during rehearsals, telling the band what songs to go over, asking which songs and parts they wish to go over again, however this was extremely difficult since a lot of the songs weren’t finished in time and I didn’t know exactly how the artist wanted the songs to sound
- I realised this after the first two rehearsals and started to suggest what to go over and always checking how much time is left of rehearsal so that we use the time wisely
