- I went to the same venue as before, just a different branch – so a different stage, space and layout overall
- The band performed “stripped back soul” on Wednesdays
- This performance contrasted from the other venue that I went to because there was a live singer and breaks between each song rather than one continuous set
- This gave me an idea of how I can space the musicians in my band
- Also thought this was a good band to research on because it involved all the instruments that I have been planning to include in my performance
- I also saw that the sax player was miked up with a DPA 4099, which is what I am also planning on using for my project
- Similarities that I found from going to these live music performances is that every member of the band communicate during the performance by looking at each other – this allows them to stay in time with each other whilst performing, since there is no metronome for them to keep in time:
- for Night Tales Loft, this was all improv, so communication is key during the performance
- The Blues Kitchen Shoreditch, guitarist and double bassist next to each other could communicate, whereas the guitarist on the other side would focus on the monitoring speaker to keep up
- At all these venues, all members of the bands were monitoring through the monitoring speakers on stage, with no in ears
- From what I saw in the performance at The Blues Kitchen Camden, the band would also communicate with the sound engineer that is in sight to say if the signal is good or they want their signal to be turned up
- Another similarity is that all these venues seemed to have dimmed lighting, with red light shining onto the band on stage, which puts more attention onto the band rather than the audience
