Using our previous knowledge and techniques from the other artefacts, this time, we created own synths to create sound and a certain atmosphere rather than thinking about the actual character, in this video being the astronaut itself. This video gave us more creativity, since we could choose a certain atmosphere or feeling to create with our own synths, though still with all of us having the similar aspect of there being open space, no gravity. I therefore had to look at what is around the astronaut in the actual spaceship such as the different rooms that the astronaut was passing through. After looking at what is around him, I wanted to emphasise the sound of the machinery that I saw in the second room he passed through. I thought about what would sound ‘electrical’, trying the different Instruments on Ableton, and finding one with a kind of ‘buzzing’ sound to it as well as layering it with my own synth consisting of the sawtooth wave using Analog. To create a sense of open space, I tried to implicate a vacuum type of sound and thought back to the previous year where I used a sample of my hair humidifier, which I recorded again of my current humidifier in which I played throughout the whole video. I didn’t really know what else to add, but the idea of having a ‘beeping’ noise came to mind, which then actually gave the impression that there was something going wrong, like a malfunction, in the spaceship, which I decided to keep in the final video. I tried to think of details that were in the video, such as the closing metal doors from the second room and attempted to make it sound as if it were far, since we see it in the distance. I did however have trouble trying to find the ‘right’ vacuum sound of no gravity, which was hard for me, so despite having the air humidifier sample, I still feel as if it didn’t fit as well with the atmosphere of the spaceship. In addition, as shown in the screenshot, I wanted to try to add ‘metal sounds’, however, similarly it was difficult for me to find a metal sound that I was satisfied to use.
