We were given a video of a lizard doing different movements, which gave us more to think about when trying to portray what is happening with sound. To be able to portray what is happening in this small animation, we took note on the space and type of floor that the lizard character was in, in addition to the actual character itself, being how heavy footed it was, its breathing, movement when turning around and kicking. We were encouraged to use the application Soundly, where I found most of my audios used in this artefact. Unlike the first video, there is more going on in this video, with lots of movement, so it was a bit easier to think of what to add to give life to this lizard. Similarly, I used Ableton again because I find it is really easy to use when having samples, with the ‘Simpler’ on the DAW. For me, the hardest part was gathering sounds that fit well together – there were a few times where some sounds I used were too low in pitch as well as too high pitched, so it didn’t sound as if it were the same lizard making those sounds. I decided to layer the samples of the footsteps and the ‘roars’ of the lizard, since when first hearing the audio with the video, it didn’t seem to be enough with one sample alone for each movement or growl. Therefore, I thought that adding different pitches of that one sample would ‘thicken’ the sound, which is audible in the final video. As well as having the different pitches of the footsteps, I added a layer in which indicates the ‘sliminess’ of the lizard from its feet touching the floor. However, looking back at the video, I feel that the footstep sounds I chose didn’t really emphasise that the lizard is on a wooden floor and in a big empty space as seen in the animation. The mixing part of this process would probably help this fit a bit more to the video, but I do think that I kind of got the basics of this attempt.
